Presentation Title:

Anti-biofilm effect of clove oil against Candida albicans: A systematic review

Abstract

In recent years, Candida albicans has become a notable opportunistic pathogen, particularly affecting immunocompromised elderly individuals. A major challenge in treating Candida infections is its ability to form biofilms, which exhibit resistance to conventional antifungal treatments, making management more complex. While clove oil has demonstrated potential as an antifungal agent, its specific effects on Candida albicans biofilms remain relatively understudied. Therefore, a thorough review of the existing literature is necessary to evaluate the anti-biofilm properties of clove oil and its mechanisms of action against Candida albicans biofilms. Such an analysis will offer valuable insights into the potential therapeutic applications of clove oil in combating biofilm associated Candida infections. This systematic review aims to assess the effectiveness of clove oil against Candida albicans biofilms. A literature search was conducted using Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct databases. The findings revealed that clove oil exhibited significant anti-biofilm activity against Candida albicans. Our systematic review highlights the potential of clove oil as a therapeutic agent for managing Candida albicans biofilms, offering a promising direction for future research and development.
